Product details
Water type fire extinguisher: portable and trolley sizes
The FireSpray water type fire extinguisher is the simple, low-cost way to protect areas full of ordinary combustible material. It is filled with plain water with a rust inhibitor and cools burning wood, paper, cloth and cardboard until the fire cannot keep going. It carries the ISI mark, is pressure-tested at our factory and is covered by a 5-year warranty from the invoice date. It comes in 6 L and 9 L portable sizes and in 50 L and 100 L trolley units for large open areas; select a size above to see its price (plus GST).
Where it works best
Water works only on Class A fires in solid materials. That makes it a good fit for:
- Schools, colleges and libraries
- Warehouses, godowns and paper stores
- Record rooms and furniture showrooms
- Textile units and timber yards
Where not to use water
Never use water on electrical, oil or gas fires. Water conducts electricity and can spread burning oil. For panels and wiring, choose a CO2 fire extinguisher. For petrol, diesel or paint, choose a foam type fire extinguisher. Where electrical or fuel risks sit next to paper and wood, add an ABC powder fire extinguisher. Kitchen oil fires need a K-type kitchen fire extinguisher.
Water jet or water mist?
| Need | Product |
|---|---|
| Stores, godowns, schools, timber and textile units; large areas needing a trolley | This water type fire extinguisher |
| Finished offices, hotels and hospitals where you want less water damage | Water mist fire extinguisher |
See both on the water fire extinguisher page.
Which size do I need?
| Size | Type | Good for |
|---|---|---|
| 6 L | Portable | Classrooms, offices, record rooms |
| 9 L | Portable | Warehouses, libraries, showroom floors |
| 50 L | Trolley | Godowns, textile units, large stores |
| 100 L | Trolley | Timber yards and large open storage areas |
Keep portable units on a wall bracket or a floor stand near exits and stairs. Water is not frost-proof, so keep units indoors or in a fire extinguisher box away from freezing conditions.

How to use it: the PASS method
- Pull the safety pin.
- Aim the nozzle at the base of the fire, not at the flames.
- Squeeze the handle.
- Sweep across the burning material, and soak embers so they do not flare up again.
Make sure no live wiring is near the fire, keep an exit behind you and leave at once if the fire grows.
Monthly check, no yearly refills
Once a month, check that the gauge needle is in the green zone, the pin and seal are intact, and the body has no dents or rust. A FireSpray unit stays factory-sealed, so there are no yearly refill visits. If a covered unit fails, we replace it. Read more on refill vs replace.

All questionsWhat is inside a water type fire extinguisher?
Plain water with a rust inhibitor, stored under pressure. It cools burning wood, paper, cloth and cardboard.
When do I need a 50 or 100 litre water trolley?
For large open areas full of solid material, such as godowns, textile units and timber yards, where a portable unit would run out too soon. Keep 6 or 9 litre units near exits as well.
Can a water extinguisher be kept outdoors in cold weather?
Its working range is +5 °C to +60 °C, so it should not be left where it can freeze. Keep it indoors or in a fire extinguisher box.
Is a water extinguisher enough for a warehouse?
For paper, cartons, cloth and wood it is a good choice. If the warehouse also has electrical panels, fuel or gas, add CO2, foam or ABC units for those risks.
What is a water fire extinguisher used for?
Class A fires only: wood, paper, cloth and cardboard. That makes it a good fit for offices, schools and warehouses.
Can a water fire extinguisher be used on electrical fires?
No. Never use water on electrical, oil or gas fires. Use CO2 or clean agent for electrical fires.
